A little doubt creates big waves
I just wanted to share a few of my favorite verses today. These verses follow me around a lot.
James 1:5-8 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Double-minded in verse 8 has the WOW-est definition in all of the Greek dictionary.
Greek Strong’s 1374 dípsyxos (an adjective, derived from 1364/dís, “two” and 5590/psyxḗ, “soul”) – properly, “two souled”; (figuratively) “double-minded,” i.e. a person “split in half,” vacillating like a “spiritual schizophrenic.” This term may have been coined in the NT (R. Lenski, P. Davids).
Spiritual schizophrenic. How wild is that? We all lack wisdom, (the varied knowledge of things human and divine according to Biblehublexicon.com). So when we pray for wisdom, we need to leave it at that. If we try to come up with wisdom on our own, to figure things out on our own, or doubt God’s timing and supply, we create the wind and storm that tosses the waves. Literally driving ourselves nuts.
Ask. Stand firm in faith, knowing God will answer and then enjoy the peaceful waters.
